I love the romance of a Westminster Register Office Christmas wedding. Malinda and Paul contacted me on the morning of their wedding to ask if I would photograph their Mayfair Library wedding that afternoon. Since it was that time between Christmas and New Year’s Eve and I had eaten far too much over the festive period I jumped at the opportunity! I made it up to Mount Street Gardens to meet Malinda and Paul at around 3:30pm and since it was going to be dark by the end of the their ceremony I took a quick shot of them with Paul’s oldest and middle sons and Malinda and Paul’s young son.
The ceremony (held in the Marylebone Room) was very special as the older two boys delivered the rings. The librarian from the main library and I were witnesses – a first for me and an absolute delight. I love how at the end of the ceremony Malinda and Paul’s son started running around them, so great was his excitement. As a photographer seeing a happy couple, an excited child and a Christmas tree all in a row was just perfect. I took a couple more of them with their boys and also a few of just Malinda and Paul.
Everyone went down the main staircase and out into the darkness of South Audley Street. We recycled the wonderful red rose petals in the porch for an impromptu confetti throw by the boys. All-in-all a very satisfying end to a very touching afternoon.
