‘I want you to have family portraits on your walls which continue to interest you for years and years.’

Stress free family portraits from my studio near Gatwick in West Sussex

Working from her studio in West Sussex, Emma creates enigmatic, soulful and natural portraits in black and white that focus on emotion and character.

“Each shoot is different. We start with a meeting either in person on on Skype and talk about who will be in the portraits and what they are like. We cover what to wear so that the family looks pulled together without being matchy-matchy, the different personalities and where in the home the portraits are going to go.

” In every family, there are different characters – the comedian, the thinker, the doer, the friend – and this is what inspires me in my work. It’s such an art to capture the real person.

“In the shoot itself, everyone has a voice and is encouraged to pose and dress how they want to be. Young children can let go with their imagination and teens feel more in control, at a time in their lives when it’s especially important to them.

“I met many of my clients when I shot their weddings. It’s such a delight seeing their families grow and them returning year after year.”
