Frank and Julia commissioned me to cover their Soho Room wedding photography at Old Marylebone Town Hall. It was absolutely the best room for this particular party of six. Frank had two friends who had flown over from Detroit and Julia had her sister and daughter.
Frank and Julia arrived in separate cars and very sensibly parked up on the pavement just outside Old Marylebone Town Hall. A heads up to anyone marrying here, this is perfectly legal. The space used to be a proper lay-by but all sorts of lorries and vans used to park here. So during the renovation they decided to fill this huge space in with flagstones. If you want to drop off or pick up people, feel free to drive up onto the pavement and park for up to 20 minutes (but remember, its on the RED ROUTE so no stopping on any day 8am-7pm except for loading for a maximum of 20 minutes).
Their entry into the Soho Room was exuberant with plenty of cheer. The ceremony was full of laughter, especially each time Julia’s (very long) full name was repeated. The Registrar approved Rik signing as ‘aka Mr Wonderful’ which made everyone giggle.
The Soho Room sofa made people feel really comfortable. Guests felt relaxed enough to sit, stand, or move around to take video or photos without it being noticeable. In essence, they could be themselves. If you are keen on a natural and relaxed feel to your ceremony then this room is an excellent choice.
We did a few photos in the Soho Room before heading out for confetti. The guests chatted over champagne while I took a few quick portraits of just Frank & Julia under the columns. The light here is stunning. Julia’s outfit of a navy shift dress with gold bolero jacket and nude court shoes looked wonderful. Calla lilies finished off her elegant ensemble.
This was just my second visit back to the newly refurbished Old Marylebone Town Hall and I am smitten. Westminster Register Office’s phone must be ringing off the hook with enquiries and bookings. Between 13th January 2018 (opening weekend) and 1st May 2018 they have taken 1,070 bookings at a rate of over 70 per week.
I have now covered 5 weddings in the Soho Room (with 4 more booked) so if you would like to know more about Soho Room wedding photography at Old Marylebone Town Hall please visit my Soho Room page. And for more details on the venue as a whole check out my Old Marylebone Town Hall page.
