Cath and William’s Chelsea Old Town Hall civil ceremony was on a quiet Thursday morning on the King’s Road. They had come down from Lancashire for a few days in London and they combined the trip with getting married at the Chelsea Register Office. They invited just William’s niece and her husband, Louise and Karsten, who acted as their two witnesses. In fact, they had just celebrated their own wedding the previous month.
Cath and William had their civil marriage ceremony in the Rossetti Room which is an elegant and stylish room, perfect for smaller groups. William wore a navy blue windowpane suit with spotty white on navy tie. Cath wore a taupe knee length shift dress with stylish black panel detail and a matching black jacket. Pale pink roses suited them both perfectly. Louise’s face throughout the ceremony was very expressive – laughter, joy, happiness – and I am so pleased that they came across in the ceremony photographs. She also did a reading which went down very well.
I needn’t have worried about whether there would be enough confetti with just two guests. Louise and Karsten did an amazing job! After a couple of photographs on the steps of Chelsea Old Town Hall we made our way to nearby St Luke’s gardens. There is a lovely little cafe there called CafĂ© Portico which is open from 9:30am until 4pm and Louise and Karsten had a drink there while I took a few portraits of Cath and William.
I said to them both that the moment I set up a walking shot typically someone with a baseball cap walks into shot which can be quite distracting. Literally at the moment they started walking two small boys whooshed past on scooters and from the other direction an old man with a bright blue tracksuit and baseball cap wandered into the shot. I burst out laughing.
We rejoined the others, who surprised everyone with a bottle of champagne and some glasses. William struggled slightly to open the bottle and meanwhile two jockeys wearing yellow silks walked into the shot along with two photographers and a director. It was one of those days!
